Ahwatukee's retail market healthy

Despite the sluggish economy, Ahwatukee Foothill's retail vacancy rate remains about half that of Valley as a whole. Numbers from CB Richard Ellis indicate that Foothills shopping centers were slightly more than 6 percent empty in the first quarter of 2010, compared with a vacancy rate of about 12 percent Valleywide. The numbers were about the same a year ago. Although the village lost a few popular businesses in the first few months of the year - Mudpie Boutique, Chuy's Mesquite Broiler and That Italian Place among the most notable - it seems that new businesses are quickly filling spaces that are left empty.
